Testing was conducted for disease surveillance and diagnostic purposes. Per Minn Statute 35.03, the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UM-VDL) is the official laboratory for the Board and is the only laboratory of its type in Minnesota. In order for poultry disease testing results to be valid and recognized by USDA-APHIS-VS, the laboratory performing the testing needs to be nationally accredited. The UM-VDL has that accreditation and is recognized from three different national accreditation organizations to conduct official, accredited testing: (1) National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), as an Authorized Laboratory: (2) National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN): and (3) American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) testing.
